Kirk Ella Cricket Club have been awarded £22,882 funding from East Riding of Yorkshire Council as part of Commuted Sums from local housing developments. The funding has been awarded towards the works at their home on Well Lane, Willerby.

In addition to the £22,882 funding from Commuted Sums, Kirk Ella Cricket Club will be contributing £2,000 towards the £24,882.00 project.

The funding will enable the cricket club to install two artificial cricket wickets on the site. One will be installed on the main square and one outside the boundary. This will enable the club to practice whilst matches are taking place and to practice even in bad weather. The club will also purchase a combi cage for the facility to protect players.

Andy Russell, Vice-Chair and Junior Coordinator at Kirk Ella Cricket Club, said: "Kirk Ella Cricket club are thankful to have received this donation from East Riding Commuted Sums.  The money will help provide practice facilities for all our juniors, as well as our senior and women's teams.  We know this will mean more people being able to access cricket in Kirk Ella."

Club Captain, John Sherman, added: "The facilities will allow the club to provide more training opportunities for all members. The Astro strip will be the perfect place for our developing women's team to train and play games, but also offers a weatherproof facility for any junior games to be played on."

Councillor David Tucker, portfolio holder for planning, infrastructure and housing, said : "The award of these Commuted Sums provided by local housing developments as a condition of their planning approval will make a real difference to Kirk Ella Cricket Club, and I wish them all the very best for the future."
