Volunteering for the Libraries Service

There are 23 branch libraries and a mobile library service with locations all over the East Riding. A range of regular and one-off events can benefit from help from volunteers.

What does the libraries service do?

The East Riding of Yorkshire libraries service manages 23 branch libraries and a mobile library service with locations all over the East Riding.

There is a range of regular events held across the libraries from Adult Reading Groups to Storytimes for young children. 

There are also one-off library events held throughout the year including Summer Reading Challenge and Literary Festivals.

What types of volunteering roles are available within the libraries service?

Volunteer roles vary from one event to another but can include the following:

  • Publicising the library service and events
  • Preparation for events
  • Practical assistance within the libraries
  • Creating and maintaining displays within branches
  • Gathering feedback from event participants

What is the timescale for volunteering with the libraries service?

Currently volunteering opportunities within East Riding Libraries are for specific events or projects and therefore are time-limited.
